Congratulations to our colleague, Kassandra George, who begins her new role as Contract Delivery Manager in Guyana this week. Kassandra discusses her career highlight, the importance of communication and the projects she has most enjoyed working on so far.
What does your role involve?
The primary purpose of my role is to maintain and develop relationships with clients by understanding their business requirements, promoting our in-house solutions and achieving mutual satisfaction by showing operational and cost efficiencies whilst maximising the utilisation of all resources in delivery of our service-level agreements.
How has your career progressed to where you are now?
My career has definitely pivoted 180 degrees. I first started as a BP Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) Marine Intern for logistics and infrastructure where I was the client requesting services from the contractor. Then I became employed with Peterson Integrated Logistics Trinidad and Tobago (PILTT) as an Intern and I was promoted to Proposals Coordinator and later, Assistant Contract Delivery Manager. At this time, I was part of the project team dedicated to executing the same requested services from bpTT. It was like sitting on both sides of the table and the experiences gave me a greater understanding of the communication chain between the client and contractor.
What skills have you found to be vital to your role?
Working in different countries has taught me the value and importance of communication in the business environment. I think it is important to understand that it is sometimes not what you say, but how you say it that makes a big difference.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
I have been given the chance to work in various offices throughout the world: the Netherlands, Scotland and India. I was given the opportunity to observe and report on client engagement and account management in different cultures which was definitely an eye opener.
What projects have you worked on throughout your career that have been particularly interesting?
Whilst located in Den Helder, I was able to contribute to the team that managed the Southern North Sea (SNS) Pool which is a vessel and quayside sharing initiative amongst nine oil and gas operators operating in the North Sea. It was very interesting to understand how they communicated with each other and with Peterson Den Helder B.V. as the sole contractor for their logistical demands.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love interacting with and learning from my experienced and knowledgeable colleagues located throughout the world.
What is something you are passionate about?
One thing I am passionate about is learning - there is always more to learn no matter how much you think you already know. I am also passionate about self-development. My goal is to become the best version of myself in both my career and non-career related activities.
